January Comes to a Close

Fortunately, in between rain storms, we have had some beautiful days. It has been a little cooler and there is snow on the mountains, Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.  The footings have been poured for the compost building and now the walls are being formed up.

January 2014 - Big Island

The year began with rain and then cleared up for a couple weeks....then more rain. We just have to work as hard and fast as we can when the weather is nice. Plumbing has begun and our steel erectors have started, things will start looking different quickly now.
Sunrise after a rainy day/night.

Another benefit of rain.

Beautiful clear sky!!

Then the Rains Came to Ookala

The end of December it RAINED!! Actually it poured...the highway was closed, the dairy lost power and we were unable to work. It rained during the next thirty days approximately 60 inches. For obvious reasons much of our time was spent dealing with rain damage and diverting water flow. Everything that was able to be filled with water was full and mud was everywhere.

Processing pit full and overflowing with rain water.

We had some clear days in between storms.
